Brian White - Northwest Hospital President

Brian White
President and COO
Northwest Hospital

Brian WhiteBrian White is the president and COO of Northwest Hospital and a senior vice president at LifeBridge Health. Though these titles are a testament to White’s considerable abilities as a leader, they only skim the surface of his contributions to the Baltimore community and beyond. White knows that Northwest Hospital’s culture of kindness differentiates it from other hospitals. “It’s not only the care we render to our patients, but also the experience our patients, staff members and physicians have at Northwest Hospital,” he says.

He has high ambitions for the hospital he came to in 2007 as vice president of Administration and Community Physician Enterprise. He wants to see Northwest Hospital honored as a “Top Employer,” to be renowned as a national exemplar of patient and physician satisfaction and to rank as a “Top Quality” hospital. These are all formidable goals, but if there’s one thing that Brian White has shown, it’s the ability to meet even the highest standards.

Even before assuming the presidency, White propelled some truly visionary initiatives. He led the transformation of surgical services to standard-setting levels in both quality and patient satisfaction. He spearheaded the creation of the LifeBridge Community Physician Enterprise, which encompasses dozens of primary and subspecialty physicians-including one of the area’s largest multi-specialty groups, Clinical Associates. He’s also responsible for the creation of the LifeBridge Health Business Development and Retail divisions, which are focused on non-traditional and for-profit growth.

Much of White’s success is rooted in his commitment to innovation. After he restructured the imaging department, it rose to the top 20 percent in the country. He spearheaded the early adoption of singleport minimally invasive surgery, as well as the creation of a multispecialty robotics service. This technology is nothing less than stunning, but the real marvel here isn’t a laser’s speed, it’s the faster, safer ways our patients are healing.

Behind each new piece of technology is a patient who can come home earlier, who can be there for his daughter’s graduation or toss the ball with his grandson. When they’re given care that inspires and empowers them, there’s no telling how far they’ll go, how many lives they’ll touch. Though Brian White’s resume is nothing less than dazzling, his legacy resides in the real people who have gotten another day, a better day, because of his work.
