- Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program
Under direct supervision of the operating surgeon; provides surgical assistance in the operating room to the primary surgeon surgical procedures as a Registered Nurse First Assistant. When not performing first assist duties to the primary surgeon, the Registered Nurse First Asst. may function as a circulator. Knowledgeable of surgical procedures, supplies, equipment and instrumentation. Responsible for room clean up, positioning and moving patients and room turnovers. The Registered Nurse First Asst. (RFNA) is also responsible for training staff, maintenance of instruments and equipment for specific surgical specialties. Requirements: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Successful completion of a RNFA program that meets the AORN recommended education standards for RN first assist programs and is accepted by the Certification Board of Perioperative Nursing. (CBPN). Five years current experience in OR. Licensed as a RN in the State of Maryland. Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR).
